Date of Birth: 4th June 1951

Ingrid de Kok grew up in Stilfontein, a gold mining town in what was then the Western Transvaal. When she was 12 years old, her parents moved to Johannesburg. In 1977 she emigrated to Canada where she lived until returning to South Africa in 1984. She has one son, Luke Fiske. Her partner is Tony Morphet.

Education and Qualifications

Matric: St Andrew's School Bedforview, Johannesburg

1972: BA (English & Political Science), University of the Witwatersrand

1974: BA Honours (English), University of Cape Town

1984: MA (English), Queens' University, Kingston, Canada.

Current Employment

January 1988 to present: Centre for Extra-Mural Studies, based in the Centre for Higher Education Studies, University of Cape Town.

Ingrid is a Fellow of the University of Cape Town, a Professor in Extra Mural Studies and part of a team of two that designs and administers the public non-formal educational curriculum that constitutes the Extra-Mural Programmes at the University of Cape Town.

Sept 2007 - March 2009: Member of the Literary Advisory Committee of the South African National Arts Council (NAC)
